Your Coziest PJs
Step One: Set Up & Prep
Pick a Place: you can do this in your kitchen or your bathroom, as long as you have access to water. Choose a place where you can be alone and have some quiet.
Clean Your Space: Wipe down surfaces and put away clutter. A clean space is a relaxing space.
Set Up Your Space: set out your products, light your candles and turn on your music. if your hair is long tie it back so it doesn’t get in the way.
Clear Your Mind: It’s important to take a second before you begin to center yourself. Close your eyes and take 3 deep and slow breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Optional Step: If you have an essential oil you like that calms you down you can use this time to apply a few drops to your hands and rub them together. Bring your hands a few inches from your face and take 3 deep breaths, taking in the scent you have chosen.
Step Two: Cleanse & Exfoliate
If you don’t have some of the products available to you at this time, feel free to skip any of the following steps. The only products you will absolutely need are a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. If you have the products available to double cleanse I highly recommend it.
First, cleanse by applying a facial oil to dry skin then emulsifying with water to help bring dirt and debris to the surface.
Remove with warm water, then move to your second cleanse using the cleanser you use every day.
If you use a Clarisonic or cleansing brush, feel free to incorporate that into your second cleanse.
Otherwise, use your wash cloth to gently exfoliate by scrubbing in small circles to remove any dead and dry skin. Be careful not to scrub too hard!
Step Three: Steam & Mask
After you’ve rinsed off your remaining cleanser, apply your targeted treatment mask.
During stressful times I like to stick to hydrating masks or masks with added nutrients like Green Envee’s Potent C Superfood Masque (Found Here)
Fill your sink or bowl with extremely hot water, and plug the sink so it doesn’t drain. While it fills, place the large towel over the sink, letting it rest on the faucet so it doesn’t touch the water. This will keep the heat from escaping. (CAUTION: IT WILL BE VERY HOT)
Once your mask is applied and your sink is mostly full, turn off the water and place your head near the water, underneath the towel. Be careful not to stick your face too close to the water or faucet. (CAUTION: EXTREMELY HOT)
Allow the steam to open your pores and let the mask soak into the skin for 7-10 minutes or follow the instructions listed on the back of the product. You may set a timer if you’d like!
Step Five: Massage
After you’ve steamed, you can drain the sink or put the bowl to the side.
Before removing your mask, take a second to give yourself a facial massage. Focus on the muscles around your mouth, in your cheeks and across your jaw line. Try small circles on your forehead and figure eights around your eyes using your ring finger. A facial massage will allow the mask to penetrate even deeper into the skin.
Step Six: Remove & Protect
Using fresh warm water and a wash cloth, remove the mask and rinse your face.
Apply your toner either by spraying it across your face or applying it to a cotton round and dabbing it on the skin.
Next, take your serum and apply a few drops to the tips of your fingers. Using your fingers, press the serum into the skin. (Do not rub) Allow the serum to penetrate the skin for 1-2 minutes.
If you have a jade roller, feel free to use it during this step. Always start in the center of the face and roll out and upward.
Finally, complete your facial by applying your favorite moisturizer. Don’t forget to apply it to your neck and chest as well!
These are the standard instructions for a basic 30 minute facial at home but you can take as much time as you need with each step. Remember this exercise is about relaxing and listening to your body. If you want it to only take 15 minute that’s fine too! Use this guide as a way to create a moment of stillness in your day. Have questions? Feel free to comment below!
